Every year in March, International Women’s Day is held to celebrate the economic, political, and social achievements of women. And while there’s no question that women have broken down countless barriers since the first International Women’s Day in 1911, we still have a long way to go to achieve true gender equality.
That’s also why we’re excited to see International Women’s Day being acknowledged in many different ways. In this video clip below, Emma Watson, the actor and UN Goodwill Ambassador will be speaking at 5 pm on Sunday, March 8, about the progress of HeForShe and gender equality.
Or you can explore the Global Fund for Women’s Project Leaders Gallery that showcases women’s work in science and technology, focusing on leadership, entrepreneurship, investment, and mentoring. These are some of the women leading the movement for gender equality in science and technology, and paving the way for more equal technology and a more equal world.
Or you can learn more about how World Bicycle Relief’s Women in Motion program is making a real difference in the lives of women by providing affordable transportation-bicycles-to women who need them in the developing world.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day—#Make It Happen—has a special meaning for us here at Linkage. We’ve been helping advance women leaders at our Women in Leadership Institute for more than 15 years. As you can see in the eyes of recent participants, it’s an inspiring experience.
International Women’s Day is Sunday, March 8. What are you inspired to do this year?
